EXPERIENCE IN CAMBODIA NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
In 2023, I got a call from a senior who a friend of my brother and he gave me an opportunity to work with Cambodia National Football Senior Team as a Sport Medicine.
I started in Dec 2023 as a doctor in Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC). I work as primary physician for the Cambodia National Football Teams (Senior and Youth).
Further, I respond in lead on-field medical response, injury assessment, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Working as a sports medicine doctor for a national team is often described as one of the most exciting and demanding roles in medicine because I become a part of the athletes' journey rather than simply treating patients in a clinic or hospital.
I work closely with team manager and head coach of Cambodia National Team, who I have to report players condition either injury or health problems. Training camps can feel like living in a small community. The normal day involves with early morning athlete check-ins, constant conversations with coaches, team manager and therapists, and follow up recovery and wellness.
More, I traveled more then five countries a year with national team. My first flight experience with the FFC was travel to Pakistan for FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) in 2023. Travel is often exciting but exhausting, I visited multiple countries each year. I experience different cultures and medical systems, long flights and jet lag, packing medical equipment and medications, and managing athlete health while abroad.
One of the best experience, when you are there with the highs and lows alongside the team. Watching the march in the band with emotional when we either got a score, or lost.
